We Do Recover in Sobriety

I should have celebrated 2 years of sobriety from alcohol on 9.24.2020 — Personal moment of shared jargon. On Sept. 24, 2018 — I was blessed with the opportunity to get sober from my partner in destruction, alcohol. I proceeded to be sober for 1.5 years, then when the coronavirus took hold in early 2020, all #AA meeting locations had to close temporarily (most are still closed, at least in the LA area). Fellowship is a main pillar of AA, as it helps aid in community and accountability. Sure, meetings went online, but it was easy to duck behind my screen when isolation became common. ‘Isolation is one of alcoholism’s best friends’, I remembered, as I mixed myself a cup of ‘breaking point’.

Guess what? I picked it back up. I mean, who knows… I may not have been an alcoholic after all. Oops, JK. Turns out I am.

With God always protecting, I was able to choose grace again. So here is my current report for the We Do Recover Challenge.

Sometimes, we dust ourselves off again and are grateful to write a few new songs from that ledge, where my fingers gripped the salted rim.

The current report:

1 month, 22 days

18 hours, 12 minutes, 26 seconds

It may not be:

2 years, 10 days

18 hours, 14 minutes, 45 seconds

but it’s something to root for!
